ABSTRACT:
Herbal facewash formulation has been developed using Palash as the primary active ingredient due to its antioxidant, antimicrobial, skin-brightening, and anti-inflammatory activities. The formulation unites this botanical with carefully selected excipients, including honey as a preservative, xanthan gum as a thickener, aloevera as a soothing and moisturizing, apple cider vinegar as a pH balancer, olive oil as an emollient, rose water as a fragrance, and reetha as a foaming agent. The facewash was evaluated for organoleptic characteristics such as colour, odour, consistency, and appearance, as well as physicochemical parameters including pH, viscosity, spreadability, and foamability. Microbial quality (bacterial and fungal load) and stability under accelerated conditions were also assessed. The formulation was also analyzed for antimicrobial activity against staphylococcus aureus and antioxidant activity using suitable in vitro methods. The formulation demonstrated good spread ability, appropriate foam formation for effective cleansing, stable pH balance, absence of microbial contamination, good gel clarity, smooth consistency, easy washability, non-greasy skin feel, and no phase separation, confirming product safety and shelf stability. Considerable antimicrobial activity against staphylococcus aureus and appreciable antioxidant potential were also observed. This herbal formulation provides a natural, safe, and effective alternative to synthetic facewashes for addressing acne, improving skin tone, and maintaining overall skin health, with all evaluation parameters meeting cosmetic standards.
